Waikiki Comes Alive
On May 3, Waikiki’s Kalakaua Avenue will come alive with its annual celebration of Spam — the famous canned meat and favourite local staple — as part of the Waikiki Spam Jam Festival.
Outrigger Hotels and Resorts is a SPAM Jam co-founder and presenting sponsor, with the festival featuring great food and entertainment in a family friendly atmosphere for kamaaina and visitors to enjoy.
Outrigger Enterprises Group’s Bitsy Kelley said of the event: “Outrigger is proud to participate in such a unique and fun-filled event that our entire community can enjoy. As a company dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we live and work, we’re especially pleased that the Waikiki SPAM Jam benefits our local families who receive support from the Hawaii Foodbank.”
About 25,000 festival goers will head to the Waikiki SPAM Jam to enjoy a selection of delicious SPAM dishes from some of Hawaii’s favorite local restaurants. Admission to the event is free, and all proceeds generated benefit the Hawaii Foodbank.
Joining the fun this year will be Chef Adam Tabura, brother Lanai Tabura and Shawn Felipe, the team that won Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race. While the famous Aloha Plate food truck won’t make it to this year’s Waikiki SPAM Jam, the winning threesome will and festival-goers can look forward to a selection of tasty “island grindz” from their team and the other participating restaurants and food trucks.
