Billing itself as Canada’s first “ultra-low-cost” travel company, Winnipeg-based NewLeaf Travel unveiled details of its inaugural flight schedule – operated by Flair Airlines – which features non-stop flights to and from Hamilton, Halifax, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Kelowna and Abbotsford and fares starting from $89.

Service begins on Feb. 12 and flights can now be booked by going to the company’s newly launched web site – http://www.flynewleaf.ca.

During the launch event in Hamilton, NewLeaf president and CEO Jim Young observed, “It’s a New Year and we are happy to say 2016 is the year we officially bring affordable travel back to Canada.”
Young said that, “Our business model, introductory fares and routes are all about making air travel possible for a greater number of Canadians seeking alternatives to the status quo.”

As an ultra-low-cost travel company, NewLeaf aims to offer significantly lower base fares and will achieve this through cost-saving measures, including focusing on smaller airports and simpler point-to-point networks.

“Most of our main routes feature non-stop flights that aren’t currently offered,” said Young. “The ultra-low-cost business model we’re using has proven successful around the world, and we’re excited to bring it to Canada.”

As part of the low-cost model, NewLeaf will enable customers to customize their travel experience by purchasing priority boarding, on-board snacks, carry-on and checked baggage.

NewLeaf’s winter schedule runs until March 13 and company officials indicated that new routes and destinations beyond that date will be announced shortly.

Consumers can book online at http://www.flynewleaf.ca or access the company’s telephone booking service seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. central time at 204-888-BOOK; customer assistance is available at 204-888-HELP.

Flights booked through NewLeaf will be operated by Flair Airlines Ltd., a Canadian-based airline in business since 2003 with experienced crew and pilots that fly Boeing 737-400 passenger jets.
