Mexico City hoteliers are bringing high-concept designs to the luxury market. Adding a raw industrial edge to the grandeur of a 17th century palace, the hotel Downtown Mexico has become a fast favorite with the urban chic crowd, the place to see and be seen.
Two Mexico City restaurants have once again taken their rightful place on the San Pellegrino & Acqua Panna World’s Fifty Best Restaurants List, compiled by the prestigious UK publication Restaurant. Considered by many to be Mexico City’s best restaurant, Pujol jumped to #17 with its creative interpretation of Mexican cuisine, while the modern Spanish-Mexican fusion cuisine of Biko brought it a ranking of #31.
This fall will bring a new building and public access to the privately owned Jumex Collection, believed to be the largest private collection of contemporary arts in Latin America, with more than 2,600 pieces. The collection’s new home is slated to open to the public in November, housing the collection of Eugenio Lopez, the heir to the Jumex fruit juice and foods conglomerate. On the edge of the upscale suburb Polanco, the new museum is next to the Soumaya Museum, which opened in 2011 and is owned by the foundation of Carlos Slim, currently the world’s second richest man.
