The British Virgin Islands appoints Natasha Chalwell deputy director of tourism

The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission (BVITBFC) has appointed Natasha J. Chalwell as the new deputy director of tourism.

Chalwell brings over two decades of expertise in tourism development, international marketing, and public relations to her new role. Her deep-rooted experience in the BVI’s hospitality and marine industries, combined with her extensive network of industry relationships, positions her as a strategic leader in advancing the Territory’s global tourism profile.

Most recently, Chalwell served as director of marketing at the British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA). In this role, she established and led the authority’s marketing department, spearheading a transformative rebranding initiative that significantly boosted visibility and stakeholder engagement. Her efforts were instrumental in the record-breaking recovery of the BVI’s cruise industry post-COVID, with cruise arrivals reaching new heights in 2023.

Previous accomplishments

Chalwell previously held a key role with the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board, where she directed multiple high-impact international marketing campaigns, effectively enhancing the BVI’s standing as a premier Caribbean destination. Her success in building strong, strategic partnerships has been vital to the Territory’s tourism growth, positioning the BVI as a must-visit location on the global stage.

In her role as Deputy Director of Tourism, Mrs. Chalwell will assist the Director in developing, implementing, and overseeing a broad range of tourism marketing strategies. This includes managing the creation of the Board’s annual Marketing Plan, fostering partnerships within the regional and international tourism industries, and supporting the Board’s operational goals.

“We are thrilled to welcome Natasha back to the Board,” said British Virgin Islands director of tourism, Clive McCoy. “Her wealth of experience and extensive industry knowledge will be invaluable as we work together to shape the future of BVI tourism.”

Chalwell’s appointment is one of three recent strategic hires aimed at strengthening the BVITBFC’s leadership team to navigate the evolving international tourism landscape. Joining her are Odelcer Hanley, appointed general manager for the United Kingdom, and Feliza Fenty, the new International Marketing Manager.
