Royal Air Maroc celebrates upcoming launch of Casablanca-Toronto route

In just under two months’ time, Moroccan flag carrier Royal Air Maroc will launch a new direct flight between Toronto and Casablanca. The highly-anticipated route, set to launch on Dec. 8, was celebrated by dignitaries from the Kingdom of Morocco as well as other African nations at an event at Hotel X last night.

“It is with immense pride and great joy that we gather today to celebrate a historical moment between the Kingdom of Morocco and Canada. It is a dream come true, one moment that we hoped for, wished for and dreamed of,” Souriya Otmani, the ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Canada said to the large crowd. “This event marks a major milestone in strengthening the ties between Morocco and Canada and beyond… This new air connection represents much more than just a flight.”

Flights will depart Toronto Pearson at 9:30 p.m. with arrival in Casablanca at 10:50 a.m. (D+1). Flights will depart Casablanca at 4:45 p.m. for arrival in Toronto at 7:25 p.m. All times are local.

“I’m really delighted to witness our two nations come closer thanks to this new bridge, which will facilitate the mobility of people and students, encourage tourism, stimulate business and allow Canadian and Moroccan communities of all origins to forge even stronger ties,” added Otmani.

Flights will operate three times weekly, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

“We are celebrating the launch of the new direct flights between Toronto and Casablanca,” said Nour-Eddine Ezzairi, country manager Canada, for Royal Air Maroc. “This new flight will start Dec. 8 with three flights per week and it’s just the beginning. Our main goal, our main target, is to expand with daily flights within three years. Thanks for sharing with us this historical moment.”

Beyond Morocco, the route is seen as a step towards increasing connectivity between Canada and African countries in general.

With Canada on the cusp of hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2026 (along with Mexico and the US) and Morocco hosting the 2030 Cup (along with Spain and Portugal), Otmani said the new route will also be key to transporting football (soccer) fans.

“Thanks to this new direct air route, Royal Air Maroc will facilitate the participation of football fans from both sides of the Atlantic, offering to our people more opportunities to experience unforgettable moments,” she said. “This new air bridge will for sure contribute to the success of this event by making travel between North America and Africa easier.”

The new route by the Oneworld member will be on the airline’s 274-seat Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with 18 business class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration, and 256 economy class seats in a 3-3-3 configuration. The new route complements Royal Air Maroc’s Casablanca–Montreal flights.
