India’s Bay of Bengal-fronting state of Odisha held a Toronto reception Friday evening, using the event to promote an array of attractions, including a long coast with many beaches, wildlife, ancient monuments and opportunities to practice yoga. But Jitendra Mohanty, chairman of the Hotel & Restaurant Association of Odisha, conceded that his state often has a low profile outside of India. Odisha is “not promoted well. That’s the reason I’m here,” he said. Odisha also has many dance festivals, Mohanty continued. Mohanty noted that India is the birthplace of many religions, with Odisha having strong ties to Buddhism. “India is a place… where you can feel that you’re nearer to God,” he declared. Mohanty also reported that Odisha has 67 tribes and tours are available that take visitors to visit those residents of his state. Seen here are Chiranjiv Mohanty of the Odisha delegation.
