Mexico Tourism Board CEO Rodolfo Lopez Negrete says Mexico wants to see more culturally inclined Canadians visit the Latin American nation. Lopez Negrete — in Toronto Thursday — says 19% of international visitors to Mexico are drawn to the country for cultural reasons, a figure he says should be higher, given the country’s many pre-Columbian archeological sites and cities with Spanish colonial architecture. And he wants more Canadians — who he views as prone to exploring — to see some of the country’s interior. “There’s a huge potential,” he says of increasing tourism to non-beach resort destinations.
