Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA), in co-operation with airport tenants and several public sector emergency response agencies from various levels of government, hosted an emergency training exercise earlier today. The simulation replicated a vehicle hijacking, aircraft fire and terrorist threat. The objectives of the exercise were to test HIAA’s emergency plans and the multi-agency response to an airport incident, as well as to comply with airport security requirements. “These exercises are an excellent opportunity to test our emergency plans, to interact with other agencies and to assess our response to a real-life situation,” says Gord Duke, HIAA’s director of operations. “Overall, we were pleased with our performance and agency co-operation throughout the exercise, and we received insightful suggestions for improvements at the debriefing.”
