Well, at least somebody is getting the opportunity to travel these days.
Nord, a 15-year-old male, polar bear made the trip to his new home at the Ranua Zoo from Denmark, Skandinavisk Dyrepark in late February.
Nord was born in Moscow Zoo and the transfer was performed due to recommendation from EAZA´s (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) polar bear coordinator.
The trip went well, and by the time he got to his new den, Nord had worked up a healthy appetite.
For the first few days, Nord spent time getting used to his surroundings and his new keepers, occasionally hiding in his den.
Now if all goes well, Nord will meet Venus, a female polar bear, later this spring. Right now, the two are living in their own enclosures, so don’t expect any cubs this year.
