The Curacao Tourist Board’s industry liaison North America says Curacao has a number of distinguishing features when it comes to competing for tourists. Chandra Smouse told a Toronto audience her island’s Dutch “legacy is everywhere,” and reflected in part by its “beautiful buildings.” Curacao has the sunny weather and warm water associated with the Caribbean, “but we focus more on our history and culture,” she said. Curacao hasn’t gone the all-inclusive route in the same way many other Caribbean islands have and invites tourists to explore the island. “In Curacao, you don’t have to worry about that [security] and you don’t have to go very far to get a great restaurant.” Seen here are Mari-Elena Baldwin of the Renaissance Curacao Resort & Casino; Smouse; and Jody de Leon of the Kura Hulanda Lodge & Beach Club and Sonesta Kura Hulanada Village & Spa.
