For the fourth straight year, Flight Centre and the Sandals Foundation have joined forces to make a difference in the largest community outreach program of its kind in the region. Following a similar very successful event last year in Jamaica, this year’s outreach was held in Turks & Caicos. More than 500 Flight Centre employees attended their National Leadership Conference held at the Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa. The conference again included community-based volunteer activities in conjunction with the Sandals Foundation. The list of projects included helping repair the local high school’s basketball court, building picnic benches for a student lunch area both there and at the local primary school, building a playground, planting mangroves and assisting at the conch farm, helping restore local ruins and interacting with the local youth through a “reading road trip.” Flight Centre asked each of its shops and businesses sending representatives to the leadership conference to raise money to cover the cost of materials, tools and transportation in order to make the projects happen. To make the donation even more significant, the company matched its staff’s fundraising efforts dollar for dollar which led to a cheque presentation for $50,000 to the Sandals Foundation. This brings the total donation by Flight Centre to $200,000 over four years.
