Carrying the flag for Santiago de Cuba during a recent event in Toronto was Neorvis Garcia, who updated agents on the destination itself and what hotels Cubanacan offers those visiting the area. Santiago de Cuba was founded in 1515, is the second-most important city in Cuba and has three World Heritage Sites, he said. Specific attractions include a rum museum and the area has “beautiful white-sand beaches” and sunsets “considered by many the best on the planet.” Santiago de Cuba is a hotbed of Cuban music, having produced many of Cuba’s most famous musicians, including Compay Segundo of Buena Vista Social Club fame.
