Air India says the link it provides between Toronto and Delhi is unrivalled when it comes to travel time. The carrier now has non-stop flights between the cities that take around 13 or 14 hours, depending on winds. “Truly, this is the fastest way to India and from India to Toronto,” Jude Crasto, the airline’s manager — Midwest, told a Toronto audience Wednesday. The flights use B777s that have Economy, Executive and First Class service. Crasto said Air India is one of the “largest carriers in Asia today” and that the airline has planes on order that will raise the number of aircraft in its fleet to 111. Both Boeing and Airbus planes are being added to the fleet, including Boeing Dreamliners. Air India now serves some 120 destinations, many of them in India, with the 2007 merger of Air India and Indian Airlines giving Air India many domestic destinations. Crasto praised the “very good airport” in Delhi, which he said, among other things, offers many shopping opportunities. Air India planes land in Toronto at 6 a.m., enabling passengers to easily catch connecting flights, he noted. Its on-time performance in Toronto is in the “high 90s,” Crasto continued, adding Air India continues to pay agents commissions.
