Live from Secrets Tulum: Canadian agents in the spotlight at Hyatt’s annual Confidant Connect Live
From aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart to the classic 007 — Bond, James Bond — travel advisors dressed up as their favourite icons for the culmination Icons Ball award’s gala dinner at Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club last night for Hyatt’s 2024 Confidant Connect Live event.
Twenty-five Canadian agents were recognized as top producers for Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection during the annual gathering, which rewarded travel advisors for their hard work and sales contributions with an in-destination getaway to experience the new resort, take part in workshops, learn about the latest trends and new upcoming openings as well as take part in fun events like a neon party and a visit to the property’s nearby beach club.
“Travel advisors are very important to Hyatt. We have to recognize them and we have to thank them and recognize them for all the support that they give us during the entire year because we are here because of them — because of their bookings,” Carolina Bellina, senior director of Canadian sales at Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection, told PressToday on location at the resort. “It’s important to bring them to the destination, to the hotel to to showcase our new property. Now Tulum, with the new airport, it’s important to know that there’s a new airport closer to the property [than Cancun.] It’s important that we engage with them, that they have fun and learn about all the resources we have available to them.”
Canadians Dawn Rzepka and Vikas Malhotra recognized
While “everybody here is a winner — everybody who is here is the best of our best… you are all absolutely amazing,” as a top producer for the company, Mark Benson, associate vice-president sales and strategy at Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection said it’s a tradition to recognize a handful of travel advisors who go above and beyond for their community with the Confidant Cares awards.
“Tonight, we’re honoured to celebrate a true leader and change maker in the travel industry with over 30 years of experience and unwavering commitment to making a positive impact,” said Orelbys Vigoa, BDM, Eastern Canada, Quebec and Atlantic Canada for Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection, in a speech about Dawn Rzepka, senior director of Luxe Destinations Weddings and her efforts. “In a role at her company, she serves as the co-chair of a global DEl committee, working tirelessly to foster inclusivity and belonging, ensuring that everyone has a seat at the table.”
Vigoa shared that her dedication to service goes far beyond her professional achievement. For the past 10 years Rzepka has been part of Liberty Village Cares.
“In this role, she has organized the annual Terry Fox Runs, served weekly Sunday dinners at the Strachan House shelter, and led One Brave Night fundraiser supporting individuals facing mental health challenges,” he noted. “Her selflessness and leadership have inspired positive change and have touched the lives of many.”
Meanwhile, Vikas Malhotra, a travel expert at itravel2000, received his award from Bellina.
“Tonight, we are honoured to celebrate a dedicated travel advisor who has spent the last 15 years helping people explore the world and creating unforgettable experiences. He has not only excelled in his professional career but has also shown a great commitment to serving his community in the Greater Toronto Area. Further, he has been a consistent and compassionate volunteer at senior homes, offering support to long-term residents by providing essentials such as blankets and food,” she said. “His involvement goes beyond material support — he has also led community lectures and engaging conversations, fostering a positive and enriching environment for seniors.”
Bellina pointed out that his service extends to local food banks as an active participant in food drives.
“Additionally, he is a strong supporter of the Sick Kids Foundation in Toronto, inspired by his company’s annual fundraising events,” she shared. “In a truly remarkable gesture, he arranged a three-day holiday for a team of nurses as a tribute to their dedication and bravery in the wake of COVID-19. The kindness, dedication and selflessness of this nominee makes him an incredible asset to his community and an inspiration to all.”
From Dec. 6-9, travel advisors stayed at Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club and explored the newly opened Casa Zamna Beach Club during a beach outing. United Airlines was a major sponsor of the event.
