Icelandair enters MoU with TAP Portugal; launches Lisbon route

Icelandair is adding Lisbon to its extensive route network this winter with two flights a week, on Mondays and Fridays, as of Oct. 11.

On this same occasion, Icelandair and the Portuguese national airline TAP Air Portugal have entered into an MoU to strengthen their strategic partnership. Under the terms of the MoU, the airlines will work towards a codeshare agreement that will allow customers to seamlessly travel across the two airlines’ networks opening new and exciting travel corridors between Iceland and Lisbon as well as to onwards destinations.

Both airlines are known for their stopover programs, offering passengers the opportunity to experience the airlines’ home countries on their way between destinations, at no additional airfare.

“We are very excited to announce Lisbon as the latest addition to our extensive route network and at the same time, increase our partnership with TAP Air Portugal. Lisbon has a lot to offer for our customers, and the increased partnership will add convenient travel corridors to many destinations in Brazil and Africa,” said Bogi Nils Bogason, president and CEO of Icelandair. “We have and will continue to expand our network of partner airlines, focusing on working with airlines that offer great service and connectivity. We are excited to expand our partnership with TAP and look forward to working with them to make the journeys of our passengers smooth and enjoyable.”

“We believe that this partnership with Icelandair will enrich the portfolio of travel choices and destinations we offer to customers throughout our network,” said Luís Rodrigues, CEO TAP Air Portugal. “As we partner with Icelandair, we will be able to offer seamless flight journeys to Iceland, one of the most exciting travel destinations, and open our comprehensive network of destinations available from our Lisbon hub to all Icelandair customers. We look forward to working together with Icelandair for the benefits of all travel lovers.”
