Historic Buildings Added to National Register
Two well-known historic sites on Hawaii Island were recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The Honokaa People’s Theatre is a classical revival building that has served a focal point of community life since opening in 1930. The theatre’s ability to accommodate both movies and live entertainment has contributed to its extensive use as a multipurpose facility. It is also the largest theatre on Hawaii Island currently showing films.
The Hotel Honokaa Canoe Club, dating back to 1927, is a two-storey wood-frame commercial building in the historic plantation town of Honokaa that is still operating as a hotel.
