Happy New Year, Welcome To 2022
“And now, we welcome the new year … full of things that have never been.” (Rainer Maria Rilke)
I should probably just let the Rilke quote (above) stand, rather than try to improve on an observation that reminds all of us that since 2020, the world – not just the travel and tourism industry – has experienced so many ‘things that have never been.”
And, at the risk of being accused of stating the obvious, 2022 will hold more of the same … ‘things that have never been’ …
But I hope – as do all of us here at Baxter Media – that 2022 will bring with it the kind of ‘never been’ things that both the industry and the world need in order to set things right again for everyone.
That together we will find a solution that allows all of us to move forward without the fear that before we’ve taken two steps, we’ll have to go back three.
Every year is a blank sheet and each of us have the opportunity to write on it what we will.
In the coming 12 months, the words that I will be writing on that blank sheet will be about understanding, collaboration, cooperation and looking beyond the individual to the collective.
It is a cliché, to some extent, to say that together we are stronger, but based on the past 20-plus months, and if you use this industry as an example, there is truth in those words.
We are stronger together.
We’ve proven that in the past and will prove it again in the future, no matter what happens.
Stay well. Stay Safe. And, most importantly, have a Happy New Year.
“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice.” (T.S. Eliot)
