Voices Of Travel Features Flanders
In Flanders’ fields the poppies blow…These words have been seared into the minds of Canadians and others of the free world as a part of our annual remembrance of those who have lost lives during war years.
This region in Belgium which was the inspiration for the poem written by Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, is lesser known.
In today’s Voices of Travel podcast, host Ron Pradinuk takes us on a tour of this region, highlighting its history before and during the war years, while introducing us to the exceptional tourist destination it is today.
The Flanders area (as in province or state) today is progressive and vibrant, with some of the most interesting cities in Europe to visit. Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, Leuven and Mechelen all are interesting places on their own, with some having been the backdrop for filming exceptional movies.
It’s biking and hiking trails outside the cities have become major tourist magnets for the entire country, with the Flanders region often leading the way with the most interesting outdoor options in Europe as well.
This week, Pradinuk’s guest is Marco Frank, trade manager for Visit Flanders.
