Europian Union Film Festival, Toronto Nov 16-30, 2023
The European Union Film Festival in-person screenings came to a close on Dec. 1 in Toronto after showcasing a variety of movies from across the European continent.
In-person screenings were held at the city’s Spadina Theatre through Dec. 1, and an accompanying online festival will run from Dec. 1-17, with viewers across Canada able to see those movies on euffto.com.
On Nov. 19, Baxter Media caught the North American debut of the Italian film, The Spring of My Life, directed by Zavvo Nicolosi, a whimsical and humorous road trip movie starring popular Sicilian singers Colapesce and Dimartino. The evening commenced with a wine tasting, featuring a selection of Italian labels, sponsored by The Charming Taste of Europe.
The festival opened on Nov. 16 with the romantic comedy, Ramona, directed by Andrea Bagney (Spain)—shot in black and white as a nod to the French New Wave of the 1960s. The Swedish film, Comedy Queen, directed by Sanna Lenken, closes the in-person festival on Nov. 30.
