Double Diwali By Voyzant In YYZ, YVR
The festival of Diwali was the occasion for two industry celebrations hosted by wholesale travel provider Voyzant Inc. last week – one in Mississauga, ON and one in Surrey, BC.
In Mississauga, the party was attended by about 95 top travel professionals from the Toronto area, while 75 travel retailers from the Vancouver region came to the Surrey celebration.
The events took place at the Versailles Convention Centre in Mississauga on Oct. 22, and at the Punjab Banquet Hall in Surrey on Oct. 29. Entertainment included, for instance, a dance troupe at the Surrey soiree.
For Voyzant and their guests, the events marked the ongoing revival of the travel industry in the wake of Covid-19. The successful distribution of viable vaccines, the easing of some travel bans and an increase in consumer demand for travel have all combined to drive this turnaround, says Voyzant.
Voyzant successfully rode out these challenges by not just avoiding staff reductions, but by expanding their operations, said Voyzant CEO Chitparan Jegathesan.
“We didn’t have employee cutbacks, instead we kept hiring new staff,” said Jegathesan, who noted that the talent pool was bigger for new employees due to staff reductions by other travel companies during the pandemic. The company’s best strategy was to keep investing in people, as well as focusing on the wellbeing of their employees and maintaining service to their partners, said the CEO.
The company has branch operations in Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Chicago and Gurugram in India, plus the head office in Toronto (Markham). It generated $1 billion in annual sales revenue.
