TICO’s board of directors recently approved payment of $2,600 to assist a consumer who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid – due to the closure of Smartchoice Travel & Tours in Toronto.
The board also denied 54 claims totalling $164,470. One claim was filed beyond the legislated six-month filing deadline; one was based on the cost of travel services that were provided and 52 claims were denied due to insufficient documentation to support and/or on the basis that the consumer’s payment was not received by a registered Ontario travel agent.
