On March 31, TICO’s board of directors approved payment of $17,169.74 to assist 27 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid.
The payment was due to the closure of Mexicana Airlines in Mexico ($14,482.84); Sky Asia Travel in Toronto ($1,476.74) and Smartchoice Travel & Tours in Toronto ($1,210.16). The board denied one claim as it was based on a non-refundable amount for travel services that were available to be received and not received due to the customer’s action or failure to act.
