RIU Hotels and Resorts has reopened the Riviera Maya’s Riu Lupita hotel after a renovation that saw the chain invest US$5.5 million.
This hotel, now a 24-hour all-inclusive, opened its doors as a RIU hotel in 2004. It is located 2 km from the centre of Playa del Carmen and its Fifth Avenue, known for charming restaurants and shops.
The Riu Lupita has undergone a complete renovation. The palapa has been replaced by a completely new lobby, where guests are greeted by light and colour. In addition, its 300 rooms have seen the bathrooms enlarged and redone, with the bathtub replaced by a comfortable walk-in shower.
The renovation also extended to the Tequila poolside bar, and the gastronomic selection of the hotel has a new option – the Dante Italian restaurant, a snack bar by day and a restaurant with an a la carte menu by night.
With the Mexican restaurant María Bonita, the Adelita buffet, and the Cozumel steakhouse, there are now four dining options for guests. The Cozumel restaurant is the snack bar of the Riu Lupita’s beach club, located next to the Riu Palace Riviera Maya, which also offers a pool for guests who want to enjoy the day facing the beach. In addition, María Bonita is no longer totally open and now has air conditioning as well as newer, more contemporary furniture.
Along with the new facilities, guests can still enjoy sports and activities led by the hotel recreation team. In addition to the entertainment program guests will find activities like tennis, ping-pong, gym workouts, basketball, volleyball, and water sports like windsurfing, catamaraning, kayaking, bodyboarding and snorkelling, and more.
