Canada’s new Liberal government says it will not lift a jet ban on Toronto’s island airport, effectively ending discussions on airport and runway expansion at the facility.

Porter Airlines has long been seeking the controversial move, which would enable it to fly long-range planes, but has been opposed by residents who fear an increase in the noise and disruptive traffic.
Ports Toronto says it will continue to study the development.
