Dallas, Texas in the spotlight at Leafs game

Travel Texas, Visit Dallas and Visit Fort Worth scored big last night as the Dallas Stars defeated the home team of the Toronto Maple Leafs 4:1. The visiting delegation also gained exposure by giving away a trip to Dallas and Fort Worth complete with air from Air Canada during a shootout challenge on the ice that was broadcast to viewers far and wide.

“We’re really promoting all of the connectivity between Texas and Ontario, and even the broader Canadian market,” Zane Harrington, director of communications for Visit Dallas told PressToday. “We have four direct flights to Toronto every single day, three to Montreal, two to Calgary and one to Vancouver. There’s lots of connectivity between the two and it’s certainly a priority for us.”

Canada remains Dallas/Forth Worth’s second largest international market. Back to sports, Harrington said that continues to be a big appeal for travellers, who can catch their home team in-destination throughout the year or

“We take sports very seriously. There’s plenty of offerings for people of varying sports interest. It’s a great place to see the Leafs on the road,” he shared. “We’re home in Dallas to the most valuable sports franchise in the world, the Dallas Cowboys, but on top of that, we’re home to seven other professional sports teams as well.”

When it comes to accommodations, Harrington shared that Fort Worth has more hotels in the pipeline than any other US city.

“Lots of new hotel products coming online every single day of varying degrees from luxury to economy,” he noted. “Something that I would be pitching to folks would be recommending Dallas/Fort Worth as a really affordable destination for Canadians to visit compared to other coastal cities. Texas itself has that unique western heritage, which I think people are really curious about. But I think when they get there they’ll be really surprised to see that Dallas is a cosmopolitan city. We have the largest urban arts district in the US, lots of really elevated shopping and really great cuisine. It’s an incredibly diverse and cosmopolitan city too.”
