Copa Signs Deal With MLB
Copa Airlines and Major League Baseball (MLB) have signed a two-year agreement that will see the carrier become the “Official Airline of Major League Baseball” in Latin America and Canada through the 2016 season. As part of the deal, the Major League Baseball silhouetted batter, as well as the logos of all 30 MLB Clubs, will appear on a Copa Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft set to fly across the region for the remainder of the 2015 MLB Championship Season.
Marco Ocando, marketing director for Copa Airlines, said: “It is an honor for Copa Airlines to be part of this partnership which will bring great opportunities for both companies throughout the Americas.”
He said that: “Copa Airlines will efficiently connect MLB with countries where baseball is one of the most popular and beloved sports. We are very excited on the impact this partnership will have throughout the continent and with our customers.”
As the Official Airline of Major League Baseball in Latin America and Canada, Copa will develop local and regional advertising campaigns and receive significant branding in game telecasts for MLB Jewel Events including the 2015 and 2016 All-Star Games, League Championship Series, and World Series. In addition, Copa plans to conduct sweepstakes for officially-licensed MLB product and trips to experience live MLB games, as well as provide unique benefits for frequent fliers.
The agreement follows Copa Airlines serving as the official airline of the “Serie de la Leyenda” (Legend Series) exhibition games in honour of Panamanian baseball star Mariano Rivera held in 2014 between the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins. Copa was also a World Baseball Classic partner in 2009 and 2013.
