Business Is Brisk
According to the Acapulco Destination Marketing Office, it’s shaping up to be one of the most successful winter seasons for the destination in a while. Average hotel occupancy was 83.5% for Dec. 20 to Dec. 31, with hotels often reporting rates of over 97% throughout the month of December.
The Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero reported that Acapulco registered the highest occupancy on record in the past seven years with 98% on Jan. 1, 2016 – an increase from the 95.9% reported during the same day in 2015.
Interest for Acapulco was especially high during weekends and holidays as this is the third consecutive year that the destination showcases an increase in occupancy of over 94% on New Year’s Day, much higher than the 74% registered in 2012.
Ernesto Rodriguez Escalona, Tourism Secretary of the State of Guerrero, observed: “For the first time in many years, we have seen a continuously high occupancy throughout the winter season with 16 days of over 80% hotel occupancy in the State of Guerrero.”
And he pointed out that: “Acapulco, Taxco and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo registered a highly successful December with nearly 900,000 tourists who contributed an economic impact of $150 million USD, exceeding all expectations and breaking records for the past seven years.”
