BERMUDA SUMMER PROGRAM HEATS UP
As the summer travel season begins to heat up, the Bermuda Department of Tourism is offering the “Sizzling Summer”program, featuring a host of free activities and events around the island. This year’s slate of events features two prominent celebrations of Bermudian culture in Bermuda Nights and the Cup Match Summer Splash. “By offering fun, free events centred on history and culture, it is our aim to help visitors experience firsthand what makes Bermuda such an enriching place to visit,”said Minister of Tourism Development and Transport Shawn Crockwell. “Bermuda Nights will provide visitors with an up-close and personal look at our distinctive culture, and the annual Cup Match Summer Splash showcases the island at its best. We look forward to welcoming thousands of new and returning visitors to participate in the festivities.”Highlighting Bermuda’s rich history and vibrant music scene, Bermuda Nights takes place alongside Hamilton Harbor in Barr’s Bay Park on June 8, July 27, Aug. 24, Sept. 28, Oct. 26 and Nov. 26. Guests of all ages can sample local cuisine, learn about the rich history of the island and dive into Bermuda’s culture with performances from local musicians. Held annually around the island’s national holidays of Emancipation Day and Somer’s Day, Cup Match Summer Splash has turned into a four-day celebration of sport and entertainment that will take place Aug. 1-4. The key event of the festival takes place on Aug. 2 as Somerset faces off against St. George’s in the biggest cricket match of the year. The island-wide celebration also boasts many picnics, beach parties and community gatherings centred around the food, drink and music on the island. (http://www.gotobermuda.com)
