Balboa Park Marks 100 years

Balboa Park in San Diego will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year.

Often referred to as the “Smithsonian of the West,” the park was initially developed with Spanish Colonial Revival architecture for the Panama-California Exposition. The year-long festival will highlight regional history through the lenses of art, commerce, culture and technology.

For instance, the California Building, which houses the Museum of Man, is one of the original buildings from the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. It recently began renovating to reopen its tower to the public. Visitors are now able to go up the tower and enjoy the spectacular views for the first time since 1935.
