All Eyes On Dubai In 2020

The Emirates road show, in partnership with Dubai Tourism, stopped in Toronto on Thursday to share some exciting highlights for the upcoming year.

While the airline announced it’s launching a new route to Mexico via Barcelona in December, the focus remains on promoting Dubai as a destination during Expo 2020.

“I think it’s realistic to expect a nice spike in travel from Canada to Dubai in response to Expo 2020,” said Don McWilliam, Manager – Canada, Emirates.“Canadian travel agents are incredibly important to that spike, they are one of the strongest channels we have.”

Expo 2020 in Dubai will be the first time a nation in the Middle East, South Asia, or Africa region has hosted.

The expo promises six months of awe-inspiring celebration between October 2020 and April 2021, featuring 3,000 square metres of shopping, 200+ food and beverage experiences, 60+ entertainment events everyday including confirmed performances by Beyonce and Rhianna, 25 million visitors, and participation from 190 countries.

Zena Amien-Bdar, Owner and President of Oceans Travel & Cruises in Toronto, is excited about the developments in Dubai next year and what it could mean for her business.

“Many of my clients fly Emirates through Dubai as a stop-over,” explained Amien-Bdar. “But I’m glad I came today because I really believe Expo 2020 will help me position Dubai as a destination, so I am excited to learn more.”
