Last Friday saw Goway acknowledge the 100th anniversary of the bloody battle at the Turkish site of Gallipoli, told in part by the Mel Gibson movie of the same name, with April 25 now known in Australia and New Zealand as ANZAC Day.
This year’s events were particularly poignant because of the centenary and Goway paid tribute to the battle’s casualties with an event at its Toronto office, in part with a display of Australian military gear from that era.
“We’re commemorating – not celebrating – ANZAC Day,” Goway Australian-born founder Bruce Hodge said. He added Australian soldiers were “always totally respectful of how the Turks defended their country.”
