Seasonal visitors to the Mexican state of Michoacan are expected to provide a boost to Mexico’s tourist trade. A new movie entitled Flight of the Butterflies chronicles the journey monarch butterflies routinely make between their wintering grounds in Michoacan and Canada and the United States, and Mexican tourism authorities hope that the monarchs will entice more nature enthusiasts to a country that wants more visitors to experience its natural side. “Between advertising campaigns, in-theatre experiences, premiere events and educational outreach programs, Flight of the Butterflies will reach more than 750 million people with the lasting message of the ecological importance and beauty of the monarchs and the urgent need to conserve their Mexican over-wintering sanctuaries and flyways,” Rodolfo Lopez Negrete, head of the Mexico Tourism Board, told a Toronto audience Thursday.
