North Carolina’s Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development says Canadians seeking the likes of beaches and golf in more southerly locales such as Florida shouldn’t hurry through North Carolina. Indeed, Wit Tuttell, the division’s director of tourism marketing says they needn’t pass through it at all. The state that has more than 300 miles of beaches and over 400 public and resort golf courses and needn’t take a back seat to any other southern US jurisdiction when it comes to entertaining vacationing Canadians, he said during a Wednesday gathering in Toronto. “We think we have everything Florida has and more,” says Tuttell, citing non-mainstream tourism offerings such as the site where the Wright brothers first took flight and artifacts recalling famed pirate Blackbeard, whose shipped sank off the North Carolina coast.
