Basecamp Resorts partners with Protect Our Winters (POW) and veritree

As part of its mission to protect the natural environments of the mountain destinations it operates in, Basecamp Resorts has committed CDN$150,000 CAD, to be disbursed over the next three years, for environmental organizations POW (Protect Our Winters) Canada and veritree.

POW (Protect Our Winters) is a Boulder, Colorado-based nonprofit organization founded by professional snowboarder and environmental activist Jeremy Jones that is made up of outdoor enthusiasts, professional athletes and outdoor-oriented brands advocating for policy solutions to climate change.

Basecamp Resorts announced its partnership with POW Canada recently, sharing its commitment to support POW’s advocacy work and engagement campaigns such as campaigns such as $now Me the Money, urging the public to join the movement by signing the petition and adding their voice to the cause, in order to help protect and preserve the destinations and experiences they love and operate in. Basecamp Resorts will also assist with events, activations and other fundraising initiatives.

A Canadian hospitality brand built on an intrinsic appreciation for outdoor adventures in Western Canadian mountain towns, Basecamp Resorts is donating CDN$25,000 per year to POW Canada, for a minimum of three years.

Through this partnership, Basecamp Resorts is also committing to making its operations more sustainable, including making investments into energy, water and waste reduction initiatives.

Vancouver-based veritree is a data-driven, restorative platform that connects businesses with verified tree planting projects to mitigate climate change, enhance biodiversity and restore ecosystems through reforestation.

Basecamp Resorts has committed CDN$25,000 per year, for a minimum of three years, to support efforts to restore forested areas in AB ad B.C. that have been depleted or degraded from wildfires or that have been deforested, as well as to support Alberta’s Sawle Lake Smart Forest, veritree’s most advanced reforestation project.

Basecamp Resorts will also collaborate with the organization on activations and events, awareness campaigns and community engagement initiatives. A progress tracker sharing the direct impact of this partnership including verified trees planted will be available at www.BasecampResorts.com.

Sky McLean, founder and CEO, Basecamp Resorts, said: “We continue to witness firsthand the devastating impacts of climate change on the lands and communities across British Columbia and Alberta that we operate in — places that we love and respect deeply.”

McLean continued: “Through these new partnerships our goal is to make a meaningful impact and to give back to the environments that give so much to us. We are proud to support POW and veritree as they work to restore and protect Canada’s most precious resources. These collaborations align with Basecamp’s commitment to sustainability and to caring for the places where we live, work and play.”

And McLean noted that: “Basecamp Resorts has always been dedicated to serving Western Canada’s mountain destinations and everything they offer – from lakes, forests and trails, to ski terrain, wildlife and endless natural wonders. This has allowed us and our guests to experience countless unforgettable moments and it is our responsibility and duty to protect these lands for future generations to explore.”
