Porter Airlines Setting A Course To A New Future

Some six months after launching a schedule of cross-Canada routes with its new Embraer E195-E2 commercial jets, Porter Airlines is posting results that point to further expansion.

It is doing so with an aircraft that not only has many leading design efficiencies, but also features a two-stage Economy class service that aims to redefine the economy experience.

Porter brought the new aircraft and services to the Vancouver market as of early February this year, starting with three flights per day between Toronto and YVR. This was followed by Calgary (three round trips per day to YYZ) and Edmonton (two round trips per day to YYZ). Recently launched were new Porter flights linking Vancouver to Ottawa, with one round trip flight per day. Winnipeg is next, with flights to Toronto-Pearson as of Sept. 7, and then Victoria to Toronto starting on Sept. 20.

After just a half year of operating the new routes, Porter is watching the numbers to start measuring profitability.
