Air North Tops Three Million Passengers
Air North is having a milestone year.
Yukon’s Airline, as it has been dubbed, celebrated its 45th anniversary in February and in June, it marked the 20th anniversary of its Boeing 737 service that connects Whitehorse, Yukon, with British Columbia (Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna), Alberta (Calgary and Edmonton), and Ontario (Toronto and Ottawa via Yellowknife, Northwest Territories).
In fact, the Toronto service was a milestone of its own. Its launch, in May, marked the first time the capital cities of the Yukon and Northwest Territories had ever been linked by scheduled service with Canada’s largest city.
And this week – Sept. 21, to be exact — flight 4N540 departed from Kelowna for Vancouver and Whitehorse with a very special person on-board — the airline’s three millionth Boeing 737 passenger. This achievement comes only ten years after Air North welcomed its millionth jet passenger.
Air North, which is 49% owned by the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation and whose jet purchase was in part made possible thanks to the investment of 1,500 Yukon shareholders, is unique in the Canadian aviation landscape.
Few airlines in the world offer affordable flights while still providing service associated with a premium product, but that’s what you’ll find on each Air North flight.
Complimentary light meals made by the airline’s own Flight Kitchen, frequently topped off by a freshly baked warm cookie, are standard on almost every flight.
And passengers don’t need to purchase a bundle or add-on in order to check their baggage. Checked baggage is included with all of its fares.
It’s thanks to this, and rave passenger reviews, that this northern carrier was named Canada’s Best Airline by Trip Advisor in 2020.
“Reaching this incredible milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated and hard-working team we have in all aspects of our operation,” said Denis Parry, Air North’s director of agency, packages products, and sales distribution.
“But none of that matters if you don’t have passengers to fly. The Canadian travel trade have been incredible partners over the past 20 years and have done a lot to promote us and the places we fly. We deeply appreciate everyone’s support.”
As part of Air North’s celebration, Parry invites the travel trade to enter a draw to win a round-trip flight from one of the airline’s gateway cities to Whitehorse, with several gift-certificate runner-up prizes.
