Blue Mountain Makes Sustainability A Priority
Blue Mountain is committing to making sustainability a priority as the second Canadian ski area to join the Protect Our Winters (POW) Resort Alliance.
Blue Mountain Resort’s Tara Lovell said: “This is a primary step but an important one. At Blue, we have always said that we love winter, and this pledge will help hold ourselves accountable to doing what we can to preserve it.”
Protect Our Winters Canada is a passionate community of enthusiasts, professional athletes and industry brands uniting the outdoor community to advocate for policy solutions to climate change.
Blue Mountain’s parent company, Alterra Mountain Company has already partnered with POW and the Canadian arm is excited to work with Ontario’s largest ski destination to make an impact in Canada.
Anik Champoux, POW Canada program director, said: “Our Resort Alliance is a coalition of resort operators from across Canada who realize they can’t stay on the sidelines when it comes to climate change – their businesses and the future of skiing depend on taking bold action against it.”
To help support POW’s advocacy efforts, guests can expect to see local POW representatives activating throughout the ski season. The team is also collaborating on a Shred to Bed ski event on the last day of Blue Mountain’s night skiing this spring in support of POW.
Derek McDonald, POW Regional Chapter Leader, Collingwood, said that: “Blue Mountain Resort has always been a huge part of the identity of the Collingwood area. It is very inspiring to see them take such a big step towards ensuring the protection of winter sports for future generations to enjoy.”
And McDonald continued: “As the local Collingwood Chapter of Protect Our Winters Canada we love where we live and are passionate about preserving it. We look forward to our partnership with Blue Mountain Resort and are excited to see our outdoor community grow and take action against climate change.”
