Remembering Edith Baxter
Canadian Travel Press’ Editor-In-Chief And Baxter Media's Co-Founder Was Truly An Industry Icon
Baxter Media management and staff is deeply saddened to report the passing of its one and only, Editor-In-Chief, Edith Baxter.
Edith passed peacefully at her home in Toronto, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020.
For over 50 years, Mrs. B – as she was known throughout the industry, both in Canada and around the world — helmed the editorial operations of Baxter Media, while her husband, W.H. Baxter (better known as Mr. B) guided the company’s business-side activities.
During that time, the Canadian travel industry’s ‘power couple’ created some of the most trusted and respected publications for this country’s travel industry.
Baxter Media’s flagship publication, Canadian Travel Press – along with Travel Courier, www.travelpress.com, Press Today and other publications in the company’s portfolio –established the industry’s benchmarks for media coverage of Canada’s travel industry under her leadership.
Over the course of her career, she set the bar high for her staff, believing that Canadian Travel Press (and Baxter Media’s stable of publications) had a responsibility to ensure that coverage was balanced and honest; telling each and every story covered clearly and fairly. That approach helped her earn respect and friendship throughout the industry.
Anyone who knew Mrs. B has their own, favourite story to tell about her and we’d love to hear them to help us honour her memory.
Wendy McClung and the Baxter family thanks you for your kindness and caring at this time.
Edith will truly be missed.
Details of arrangements will be forthcoming.
