Port of Quebec Concludes Strong Season

The Port of Quebec concluded another successful cruise season with 236,715 cruise passengers visiting from 148 ships calling worldwide.

Quebec City is a growing embark/debark port with 22 turnarounds in 2019. In addition to its strong passenger growth and more lines calling, nine ships made inaugural visits with first-time visits from five cruise lines including Hurtigruten, MSC, TUI, Scenic and Peace Boat.

Construction of a second terminal (see rendering above) is underway and set to launch in fall 2020. The new 100,000 square-foot facility will accommodate vessels up to 4,000 passengers and enhancements to the berth that will greatly elevate the guest experience. The new facility will provide significantly more space both inside the terminal for passenger flow and outside for ground transportation.

Located at Berth 30, the new terminal is in close proximity to the existing Ross Gaudreault Terminal, and close to public transportation including Via Rail, spearheading renewed development of a former industrial area creating an expanded Port District. The $30 million dollar project is funded by the Port of Quebec along with the Provincial Government of Quebec and Quebec City.

“The new terminal is a testament of the community’s commitment to the future success of the cruise destination and a high quality quest experience,” said Mario Girard, president of Port of Quebec. “The new development sets up Quebec City for future growth which will provide economic benefits for the region while being conscious of its environmental responsibility and commitment to sustainable growth.”
