Saluting Inspiration
There’s lots of excitement at Trafalgar today as it celebrates “the incredible women they are proud to be associated with” on International Women’s Day.
Since 1908, this day has been the celebration of the economic, social and cultural achievements of women.
Now, more than ever, clients have the opportunity to see firsthand and interact with the inspirational women of Trafalgar and experience how the transformative power of tourism across the globe can promote sustainable initiatives and economic empowerment.
According to a previous World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and UN Women study, results found that women make up a large portion of employment in the travel industry with almost twice as many women employers as other sectors.
Tourism can act as a vehicle for the empowerment of women. International Womens Day is an excellent time to highlight and bring awareness to the powerful impacts of the travel and tourism industry worldwide, and the commitment to fostering diversity, gender equality and sustainable futures.
Gavin Tollman, Trafalgar Global CEO, observed:
“As we look to our female forces working in the field, delivering exceptional experiences to our guests, I am delighted to confirm that within our exclusive “Be My Guest” experiences, 48% of these in Europe and Britain are hosted by women. As I look around the world, we are privileged to work with a selected network of inspirational and truly individual women, each with their own tale to tell.”
These exceptional women are just a handful of those that make Trafalgar’s guided vacations unforgettable, welcoming Trafalgars guests into their workshops, kitchens and homes to share their warmth and wisdom.
- Marta Cucchia — a skilled artisan preserving the ancient Perugian hand-weaving heritage. During Trafalgar’s 11-day Italy Bellissimo program, Marta Cucchia teaches visitors the ancient art of Perugian hand-weaving. Marta is the fourth generation of women in her family to run the Laboratorio Giuditta Brozzetti workshop.
- Gemma Kempthorne — an entrepreneur on a mission to bring peace and love to those who visit Trefranck Farm. Guests can travel and meet yoga teacher and owner of Trefranck Farm in Cornwall, Gemma Kempthorne, a woman on mission to bring happiness into the lives of her visitors during Trafalgar’s 8-day Best of Devon and Cornwall guided experience.
- Poppy Salinger — motivated for success is the result of the warm exchange we have with our guests and their happiness of sharing La Bastide Rose. Poppy Salinger is a woman with much wisdom and many-a story to share during Trafalgar’s 9-day Wonderful France guided experience. Widow of Pierre Salinger, former press secretary to JFK, Poppy now welcomes Trafalgar guests to La Bastide Rose — a historic mill on the banks of the Sourge.
- Diana Lenzi — small business owner who lives by the motto “learn as you go.” New for 2018, Trafalgar’s 11-day Wonders of Italy program, offers guests the opportunity to meet with a former chef who gave it all up to run her family’s Tuscan wine estate.
